What is an essay?

An essay is a piece that typically conveys the writer’s opinion on a specific subject. It comprises several paragraphs that explain, analyze and evaluate an issue or concept. Essays can be written in different forms, such as argumentative, descriptive, narrative, and expository essays. They also differ in purpose depending on the type of essay they are intended to be — either to inform, persuade or argue a point. Good essays should have a clear structure, organization, and logical transitions between ideas.

Additionally, they should adhere to proper grammar rules and use appropriate language for the audience. Finally, the essay must include evidence-based arguments to support its claims. By following all these steps, writers can create compelling work that will leave a lasting impression on their readers.

10 tips for writing an essay on an environmental topic

  1. Research the topic

Before you start writing your essay, it is crucial to understand what environmental topics are available and how they relate to existing knowledge. Conduct research on the internet or in academic journals and identify a pertinent issue – this will form the basis of your essay.

  1. Get organized

Create an essay outline, including key points, arguments, and evidence for each issue. This will keep you focused on developing well-structured writing covering all aspects of your topic.

  1. Write from an angle

When crafting a thesis statement or forming an argument, try to present it from a unique angle you can thoroughly explore in your essay. Also, ensure that any opinions and assertions are backed up by evidence.

  1. Use scientific sources

When conducting research, use reputable scientific sources that provide accurate data and information on environmental topics. This will ensure your essay is based on reliable facts.

  1. Stay current

Ensure that the content of your essay is up-to-date with current events and trends in the field of environmentalism, as this will give your argument more weight and relevance.

  1. Make it interesting

An engaging introduction and conclusion can make your essay stand out from others. Your opening paragraph should draw in readers and set the tone for your paper, while the decision should leave them with something to think about after reading your essay.

  1. Use real-world examples

Support your arguments with relevant examples from current or historical events, which will give your essay more credibility and give readers a better understanding of your points.

  1. Edit and proofread

Pay attention to spelling, grammar, and syntax while editing your essay. This will help ensure your ideas come across clearly and that any mistakes are consistent with the quality of the content.

  1. Cite sources

Be sure to cite all sources used in your paper to give credit where it is due, even if paraphrasing or summarizing someone else’s work. This will also lend credibility to the claims you are making in your essay.

  1. Keep it concise

The scope of your topic should determine the length of your essay. Presenting a complete and comprehensive argument in as few words as possible will show that you have a good command of your subject matter and can communicate effectively.

Following these tips will help you write an effective environmental essay that engages readers, presents compelling arguments, and is based on reliable evidence. Good luck!

Ecology in general is the science of interactionand living beings with each other and with the environment. We are accustomed to associate this concept only with nature, forgetting that there is an ecology of communication, family and work relations, etc. In the gambling industry, there is also the concept of “eco-friendly game”. Whatis it? Consider the example of such a game, like poker.

A few years ago, the issue of “gambling ecology” became very acute. And now some gambling establishments are not able to organize the process so that users are comfortable and safeo. The main issue in the “environmental friendliness” of the game is the balance of the number of professional players and amateurs at the tables.

Why is this balance so important?

For more than 10 years in online poker, environmental issues have not been raised at all, and it was during this period thatthe game rapidly developed. So why did this question arise at all and in such a short time become acute?
After rapid development, there is a decline. The fact is that with a constant influx of new players, and, accordingly, money, the industry reached the peak of its growth and simply could no longer develop at such a pace. After the recession, it turned out that regular players win and withdraw a lot of money, and beginners and amateurs, on the contrary, quickly lose, become disappointed and leave the game. The number of PRO players in gaming rooms Atach with high limits began to increase disproportionately, which led to an oversaturation of tables with professionals. Beginners in this situation became simply not interested in playing.

A slightly different, that is, calmer and more balanced situation, when the limits are not too high. However, no one gives guarantees that in the future the same situation will not develop here.

The logical outcome was that poker rooms and online rooms began to look for a way out of the situation in order not to lose profits. Gambling clubs are tryingto increase the number of regular and novice players at the tables. To a greater extent, the question was to increase the number of newcomers, because regular players were already enough. As a result, most of the proposals aimed at creating a balance between different groups of players, worked thanks to professional gamers.
Methods of creating a balance

Initially, such methods were massive, because they were applied to all cash tables and players. The first stage was a new system of rake distribution, whichran evenly among beginners and amateurs who lose.
In a situation where the level of payment is already high, and even a part was taken away from regular customers, the level of rakeback will also be high. The funds collected through additional rake go tothe organization and launch of regular and temporary promotions. This allows you to attract new players.

Some of the game rooms in the online casino left their rake systems unchanged, but removed the rakeback. Thus, the direct link between the size of the rake played and the bonuses under the VIP program was destroyed.
Also, in order to establish a balance, in novo casino online , bans on the work of some software were applied, old ones were excluded and new options were added, thanks to the alteration of poker clients. An important role was played by mobile Chinese rooms, in which the process of organizing the game is aimed at maintaining the interest of beginners. These includecompulsory insurance, playing with an ante, restrictions on the minimum size of VPIP / PFR.

As mentioned earlier, the problem of balance was especially acute precisely at those tables where there were high limits. Therefore, the game rooms began to test their recovery methods on them. By and large, they all boil down to increasing the level of privacy of the game.

Invitation system

An interesting system in which the field is formed with the help of invitations and has the form of 50×50. It was first tested in Triton Million for Charity. In the context of this system, an amateur can invite one professional player to the game.
And this soil of onlineand offline poker is very close. Traditionally, it is believed that in live poker, the balance between different groups of players is better adjusted, and the fields are softer.

Online Poker Player Balance
In the virtual version of the game, they tried to create the necessary compositions fortols by dividing players into groups depending on the skill, but then this mechanism was not successful and was vehemently rejected by the poker party, and also had a number of not very pleasant consequences. If a game with high limits will lean towards invite only, then with a lower limit, the creation of 50×50 tables will be possible using software methods.

The technology of random seating at cash tables can help in this, but it should not be done completely random, but depending on the status of the player, whichis determined by the totality of his statistics (beginner, amateur, regular). Thanks to a certain algorithm, players will be distributed at the tables by status in approximately the same ratio. But at the same time, the status of the player will remain hidden from his opposition.

This approach is fraught with certain difficulties – an increase in traffic requirements at each limit, a delay when boarding the table, if one group of players significantly exceeds the number of another, etc. However, they are quite solvable by simply attracting amateurs to the room, not professionals. In addition, players have the opportunity to refuse to apply this algorithm to it. That is, if the player wants to get to the table faster, then there is a high probability of getting to 5 regulars, and if he wants the hundred liters tobe balanced, then he will have to wait. However, this is only a hypothesis, and how realistic it is to organize it programmatically is still unknown.

Conclusion

The bottom line is that gaming rooms are constantly looking for ways to create and maintain a balance of players withtables. This issue is a priority, because its future and profit depend on it. We believe that the most effective way to maintain the environmental friendliness of the game is to purposefully place at least about the same number of representatives of both groups at the tables .

The growth of the online gambling industry has been significant in recent years, and with this growth comes the need for increased energy efficiency. While online casinos may consume less energy compared to their physical counterparts, there is still room for improvement. Even an average-sized virtual casino requires as much electricity as a large shopping mall to keep its operations running and offer a wide variety of games to its users.
Thankfully, many gambling websites are taking steps to improve their energy efficiency and reduce their environmental impact. In this article, we will examine the various methods employed by virtual casinos to save energy and the ways in which players can also contribute to this effort while enjoying their favorite casino games. Remember, every small step counts in creating a more sustainable future.

Online Casinos’ Energy-Saving Measures

Many virtual casinos have taken steps to reduce their environmental impact by implementing a variety of energy-saving methods. These measures not only help to conserve energy, but also lower costs and contribute to a more sustainable future.
Using of More Efficient Software
One of the most effective approaches to reducing energy consumption and costs is by utilizing energy-efficient servers. These servers consume less energy and produce less heat, which in turn lowers the requirement for cooling systems. This approach not only conserves energy but also cuts down on the expenses associated with maintaining the servers.

Using Cloud Computing
An alternative strategy used by online casinos is to implement cloud computing. This approach enables them to operate their systems on remote servers, thus decreasing the need for physical space and energy consumption.

Applying VR Technology
Virtual reality technology is another way that online casinos can reduce energy consumption. By using VR, players can experience the casino in a virtual environment, which eliminates the need for physical casino spaces. As this technology becomes more prevalent, it is likely to be adopted by more online casinos. So, keep an eye out for new online casinos that have incorporated VR technology, particularly those reviewed by experts in the field like those from https://onlinecasinoaussie.com.

Having Energy Management Systems
Lastly, several online casinos have implemented energy management systems. These systems keep track of and regulate the energy usage of the casino’s operations and notify the staff of any possible problems. This allows for detection of areas where energy can be conserved and enables the casino to execute energy-saving methods more efficiently.

Players’ Guide to Sustainable Gambling

In addition to the methods used by online casinos, there are also several energy-saving methods that online casino users can implement in their own gambling routine.
Power-Saving Settings
The first method and probably the simplest one is to activate the power-saving mode on a computer or mobile device. By activating this mode, the standby power consumption of the device can be significantly reduced, up to 98%. This method not only lowers the energy usage when the device is not in use but can also help to extend the battery life of the device.

Mobile App Usage
Playing games through a web browser consumes significantly more energy compared to using downloaded software. To save energy, consider using a mobile app instead of a desktop computer. Mobile devices are also more portable and allow you to gamble from any place, at any time.

Casino Website Choice
It should go without saying, but for optimal efficiency, select online casinos that have a dedication to sustainability. This may include casinos that use renewable energy sources as mentioned earlier in this article.

Screen Time Limits
Ultimately, it’s essential to limit the time spent on playing online casino games. This can help to lower the energy usage of the device and decrease the risk of gambling addiction. In this regard, it’s more advisable to choose platforms that implement responsible gambling practices.

Conclusion

Overall, the online gambling industry has the potential to be a major contributor to energy efficiency and sustainability. Many casino websites have implemented a variety of methods mentioned above to reduce their environmental impact and save energy.
Additionally, players can also play their part by adopting energy-saving practices in their gambling routine. By working together, the industry and its customers can make a positive impact on the environment.

The most populated areas of the United States, as well as those regions in which a high level of industrial development was observed in the 60-70s, stood at that time on the verge of a large-scale environmental crisis.Due to the use of open-pit mining of some minerals, the area of “badlands” began to increase significantly (the literal translation is “bad land”, this is land with a very difficult, hilly, ridged and absolutely unsuitable for development relief), due to the total motorization of the country large cities began to turn into “smogopolises”, and the organic life of the great American lakes began to fade away little by little. All of the above factors forced the leadership of the United States to approve a special law that began to protect the environment at the federal and national levels.

In the United States, a complex branch of environmental law began to take shape, which was focused on the implementation of a model of safe (environmentally) development. The basis of environmental law is the norms of common law, however, there is also legislation aimed at regulating the relationship of environmental rights. In addition to federal legislation, there are also special laws of individual states.

Legal regulation of environmental protection

The legislation of the country concerning ecology has such directions as:

  • Preservation and protection of especially valuable natural objects;
  • Rational use of natural resources;
  • Prevention of pollution of natural objects.

The main one is the law on national policy related to environmental protection.

It was adopted back in 1969 and is designed to control such things as:

1. Responsibility for environmental protection should rest with federal agencies;

2. Scheme for the implementation of these duties

There is a special council under the President, which is responsible for the quality of the environment. It functions as an advisory and subsidiary body.In addition, the president of the country is entrusted with the duty to conduct annual reports on the state of the environment and changes in it.Also, US law provides for the regulation of relations for the protection of the environment, as well as its change.Legal regulation in this area is not limited to an integrated approach.US legislation regulates relations for the protection of the environment from various pollution as well as for individual objects. This refers to the protection of waters, flora and fauna, the marine environment, neutralization and disposal of toxic substances and solid waste, etc.

Environmental problems to achieve certain goals in the economy

Back in 1992, Rio de Janeiro adopted a special declaration regarding the environment and its development. It says that all countries need to cooperate to create an open international economic system, as this will contribute to the sustainable development of these countries.Any technologies that are aimed at solving resource-saving and environmental problems should be accessible to everyone. However, the declaration approved at the conference in Rio-92, such states as Greece, Britain, France and the United States have not fulfilled.According to Academician N. N. Moiseev, such rules of behavior in the economy are recommended for the world, which have already been tested in different countries. However, it is not possible to engage in the introduction of modern management methods in those countries that are developing.

The main environmental issue is the fight against carbon dioxide emissions and energy consumption.America consumes much more energy per capita than does the developing world, and its carbon dioxide emissions equal 25% of the total emissions on our planet.Southern countries believe that those states that are most to blame for the fact that the climate on the planet is changing, that is, those that pollute the air and create a “greenhouse effect”, should bear serious responsibility for this. However, the United States categorically disagrees with such rhetoric.Congress refuses to sign any agreement or treaty that limits US energy development. The head of one of the international movements for the protection of nature “Friends of the Earth” – T. Jeniper said, that the United States, at any cost, wants to maintain its superiority in the economic sphere, as well as to preserve the traditional way of life for Americans, regardless of the interests of the world community.Commitments that relate to the environment were very clearly demonstrated in Denver, where the G8 meeting was held, and then at a specially convened UN session, which was traditionally held in New York City. The controversy that erupted during this meeting ended with the meeting ending one day late, resulting in only a vague resolution to cut carbon emissions significantly. However, Washington not only did not want to move forward, as the Rio-92 agreements envisage, but even began to abandon these agreements altogether.and also to preserve the traditional way of life for Americans, regardless of the interests of the world community.Commitments that relate to the environment were very clearly demonstrated in Denver, where the G8 meeting was held, and then at a specially convened UN session, which was traditionally held in New York City. The controversy that erupted during this meeting ended with the meeting ending one day late, resulting in only a vague resolution to cut carbon emissions significantly.

As director general of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), I was pleased to agree to write about the amazing transformation of the energy sector made possible by the introduction of renewable energy technologies. This topic was suggested by the kind invitation of the UN Chronicle, and we will return to this fact as it says a great deal about the place and perception of renewable energy use right now.

But first, we need to talk about why this area of energy is so important. The world is on the cusp of an unprecedented turning point. Climate change is a real and imminent threat to the prosperity that many people have already achieved and that millions of people are striving and working for. But, of course, it is more than that. The point is that we must ensure the survival of the world’s most vulnerable people and protect ecosystems and biodiversity. Climate change is largely due to emissions from fossil fuels, although there are other important causes as well. To stop climate change, we must reduce our consumption of these carbon-rich fuels. Renewable energy can and should be central to this plan.

Increasing the use of energy from renewable sources will have other positive results. The use of such technologies can create jobs, reduce local air pollution, and reduce water consumption. Renewable energy technologies are almost exclusively based on local resources and therefore help insulate our economies from external shocks to energy security. Importantly, for many of our 173 member and signatory states, renewable energy is also one of the fastest ways to increase access to electricity. The distinctly modular nature of many of these technologies, especially photovoltaics, which is based on solar power, and onshore wind power, also means that for the first time in electricity history, individuals and communities are playing an active role in their own electricity supply. As such, renewable energy technologies mark a transition to a more democratic and equitable energy system.

The benefits of renewable energy are numerous and obvious, but the obstacles to its implementation are just as numerous and obvious. Established market structures, lack of understanding of how new renewable energy technologies work, difficult access to and high cost of financing, inadequate regulatory mechanisms, lack of compensation for fossil fuel pollution (such as carbon emissions and local pollutants), small market capacity and political uncertainty have all played a role in inhibiting renewable energy use. Fortunately, thanks to the hard work of the industry, governments, financial institutions and regulators, many of these obstacles are being overcome.

Every year since 2011, more than half of all new generation capacity brought on line has been from renewable energy technologies. Today, 164 countries have renewable energy targets, compared to only 43 in 2005. In 2014, a record 130 GW (gigawatts) of renewable energy was added to the global energy mix, and investment in the sector grew from $55 billion in 2004 to more than $260 billion in 2014. 2014 was also a record year in terms of the amount of photovoltaic (40 GW) and wind (52 GW) generation capacity put into operation.

The path to competitiveness

The economics of renewable energy are key to understanding its potential role in energy, as well as the pace and cost of putting energy on a truly sustainable path. Unfortunately, most governments have not systematically collected the data needed to track trends in the evolution – or, as many rightly call it, revolution – of the costs of deploying renewable energy technologies. As a result, policy effectiveness has too often been diminished by misunderstanding cost structures or by using outdated data.

To fill this gap and ensure sound policies based on accurate and timely data from a reliable source, IRENA has developed a world-class database that includes about 15,000 renewable energy projects for utility-scale energy and nearly three-quarters of a million small photovoltaic systems.

The trends identified from this database show not only the success of cost-cutting policies, but also the basis for transforming the energy sector in the future.

The price competitiveness of renewable energy has reached an all-time high. With a good resource base and cost structure, biomass, water, geothermal and wind energy can now be converted into electricity on competitive terms compared to the use of fossil fuels.

In 2015, solar panel prices were down 75 to 80 percent from the prices in effect at the end of 2009. From 2010 to 2014, the ranked costs of generating electricity for utilities using photovoltaic technology fell by half. The most competitive solar utility power projects provide regular electricity at just $0.08 per kW∙h (kilowatt-hour) without financial support, compared to $0.045 to $0.14 per kW∙h for fossil fuels. At the same time, for 2017 and beyond, an even lower cost is assumed. A good illustration of this shift is the recent tender in Dubai for electricity at $0.06/kWh, despite the region’s abundance of fossil fuels.

One of the most competitive energy sources today is wind power. Improvements in technology, accompanied by further reductions in equipment installation costs, can reduce the cost of wind energy production to the level of fossil fuel-based production or even lower. Wind energy projects around the world have consistently generated electricity at $0.05 to $0.09 per kWh without financial support, while the most efficient projects have even lower production costs.

Concentrated solar and onshore wind generation are still generally more expensive than fossil fuel generation at this time, with the exception of onshore wind power in tidal areas. However, these technologies are still in their infancy in terms of their applications. Both are based on important renewable energy sources that will play an increasingly important role in the energy mix of the future as the cost of using them continues to fall.

The costs of energy production based on more mature renewable technologies – biomass energy, geothermal energy and water – have remained largely stable since 2010. However, with untapped economic resources, these mature technologies can provide the cheapest electricity from any source.

Considering the costs of installing equipment and the efficiency of modern renewable energy technologies, as well as the cost of using conventional technologies, we can say that energy production from renewable sources can increasingly compete on an equal footing with fossil fuels without any financial support.

The state of nature is very important to Germans, and they consider their country a flagship in climate protection. However, Germany has still not been able to give up one of its weaknesses.

It began years ago with air pollution and deforestation. In 1961, Willy Brandt, the SPD candidate for the chancellorship of the FRG, found a fitting slogan: “The skies over the Ruhr basin must turn blue again.

Leukemia and rickets, especially among children, were on the rise in the industrial and coal mining regions during the “fat years” of the economic boom. Brandt then declared an “almost total disregard for the public task” of protecting the environment. This did not help him personally: He lost the election to Konrad Adenauer. However, the problem was voiced.

My friend the tree

A couple of years later, the singer Alexandra (real name Doris Nefedov, Doris Nefedov) sang “Mein Freund der Baum” (“My Friend the Tree”), which became a mega-hit, which was probably only possible in Germany. The melancholy memories of the tree, to which she entrusted her secrets as a child, touched the sentimental Germans. The song also included a reproach: “Soon a house of glass and stone will grow where the tree was cut down.

A few years later, in 1981, the topic of forest reduction was on everyone’s lips. Tens of thousands of people took to the streets to protest the irreparable damage to nature. Almost parallel to this, the protests against nuclear power in the Federal Republic of Germany reached a climax. The Green Party was founded, which has since been largely seen as the “guardian” of the environment in Germany.

Ecology became a priority

Since then there has been a great deal of attention given to protecting the environment. Landfills at city entrances have disappeared, and recycling has been successfully introduced. Industrial enterprises installed filters in their equipment. The quality of water in rivers improved so much that the popular Minister of the Environment, Klaus Töpfer, took a bath in the Rhine in 1988 under the gaze of television cameras. Germany also kept a close eye on environmental incidents abroad, and in 1986 “Chernobyl” became the country’s “Word of the Year.

Since the beginning of the global warming debate, Germany has proclaimed itself one of the world’s leaders in the fight to preserve the climate. Since 1990, the country has reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 24 percent, more than most developed countries. The per capita figure is even higher in the United Kingdom, although the topic of environmental protection is not so actively discussed there.

A great weakness of the Germans

However, Germans are not so committed to nature in all areas of life. In no other European country can drivers drive on the freeway without a speed limit: the world-famous German cars are usually equipped with powerful engines. To date, all sectors have contributed to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions except the automobile sector.

But public transport in international comparison looks exemplary. And Germans are also zealous members of the World Wildlife Fund – WWF and local counterparts – NABU (Naturschutzbund Deutschland) and BUND (Bund für Umweltund Naturschutz Deutschland).

All surveys show that environmental protection is very important to Germans. Every two years, the relevant federal office surveys German residents on this topic, and the results are considered to be a reliable yardstick.

On April 22, International Earth Day is celebrated. On this day there are many actions… Their purpose is to raise general awareness of the need to protect the environment. The hashtag #earthday is increasingly common on Twitter… But do users know what needs to be done to save our planet.

The European Environmental Bureau (EEB) told Euronews about Europe’s “green” priorities.

Fighting air pollution

The EEB claims that more than 400,000 Europeans die prematurely each year because of air-pollution problems.

More than 90% of the inhabitants of European cities breathe air with pollution levels above the thresholds recommended by the WHO (World Health Organization).

The damage from “bad air,” according to the EEB, is 940 billion euros a year. Of these, 15 billion euros go to pay for bulletins and 4 billion euros to treat diseases related to air pollution.

Says EEB spokesman Sebastian Pant:

“The situation has improved since the 1970s, but we are nowhere near the WHO recommendations. This goal, alas, we will not reach even by 2030. We can see that cities understand the need for action. But at the national level, the authorities are slow, and this creates problems.

2: Fighting Climate Change and Energy Security

At the end of the year the European Environmental Bureau plans to convene a conference which should result in an agreement on reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

“We don’t think the European Union is doing enough. It can improve the energy security situation by reducing dependence on Russia and increasing energy efficiency. The best way to fight climate change is to fight energy consumption,” notes Sebastian Pant.

Avoiding environmentally damaging investments and trade agreements.

This is mainly a question of creating the largest free trade zone in the world between the U.S. and the EU. The Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) agreement could be signed very soon. Critics fear that U.S. corporations will be able to circumvent strict European standards.

  1. Creating a Closed Loop Economy and Better Resource Management

A circular economy is an economy based on the renewal of resources, with multiple uses of products. With this economy, resources are used more efficiently, reducing waste.

A successful transition to a circular economy could save Europe €72 billion, reduce carbon emissions and create 400,000 jobs.

Sebastian Pant of the EEB said, “This is all very important for Europe. We have to manage our resources better. If we can create a system, for example, where products have optimal design, we can reduce waste.”

“We believe we will get there. There’s not a lot of doubt. And there’s not a lot of people who oppose it.”

“The question is how quickly it will happen. The European Commission makes proposals and then withdraws them, promising to come up with something more thorough.”

  1. Preserving and protecting biodiversity and ecosystems

EEB experts warn:
unsustainable farming, overexploitation of fisheries resources and pollution are having an extremely negative impact on Europe’s biodiversity and ecosystems.

Slightly more than half of Europe’s water bodies are expected to meet the norm in the coming year. Meanwhile, the EEB adds that the state of regional European seas is poor and the biodiversity of marine organisms is increasingly challenged.

Meanwhile, the normal functioning of ecosystems is all about flood protection, clean water and disease control.

Individual cities around the world are also striving to become climate neutral. According to the CDP, of the more than 570 cities worldwide for which statistics are kept, more than 100 get at least 70% of their electricity from renewable sources – water power, geothermal, solar and wind power.

The list includes such cities as Oakland, Nairobi, Oslo, Seattle, Vancouver, Reykjavik, Porto, Basel, Bogota, and others.

For example, Burlington (Vermont, USA) already gets 100% of its electricity from wind, solar, water, and biomass. All of Reykjavik’s electricity is generated by hydroelectric power plants and geothermal sources. By 2040, all public and private transport in the capital should be free of fossil fuels.

100% of the energy from renewable sources for Switzerland’s Basel is provided by its own power supply company. Most of the electricity comes from hydropower and 10% from wind. In May 2017, Switzerland voted to phase out nuclear power in favor of renewables.

The world’s capitals are not left out either. The Berlin Senate, for example, approved the German capital’s Masterplan Solarcity plan for solar energy development. According to the city’s overall development strategy, Berlin is to become climate neutral by 2050. At the end of 2018, Berlin had solar power plants that covered 0.7 percent of its electricity consumption; by 2050, 25 percent of the city’s energy consumption will come from solar power.

“We are promoting the expansion of renewable energy in Berlin. Two bills are now pending in the capital’s Senate. The Solar Energy Act would require private homeowners to install solar systems on their roofs. A bill from the Environment and Climate Administration would make the use of solar energy in public buildings mandatory as early as 2023. This will drastically reduce Berlin’s CO2 emissions,” said Silke Goebel, head of the Green Party in the Berlin Senate.
How businesses create a positive image by investing in renewables

Companies around the world are also creating strategies and green goals that they want to achieve over a period of time. Awareness has emerged: it is necessary to act responsibly and set a green example for consumers. Of course, the use of RES can not only help to create a positive image for companies, but also reduce energy costs.

For example, Facebook’s new servers, as well as General Motors, will be powered by a solar power plant. It’s being built in Kentucky as part of a massive Green Invest program.

IKEA has planned to produce more renewable electricity than it consumes by 2030. There are 920,000 solar panels on stores in 14 countries, as well as more than 530 wind turbines. Ingka, IKEA’s parent company, has invested about $2.8 billion in various renewable energy projects and owns 1.7 GW of capacity. It will also continue to invest in the construction of wind farms and solar power plants.

BASF, a chemical company, will gradually switch to renewable energy sources and also plans to invest in wind farms.

Intel gets its energy from wind, solar, water, and biomass. Since 2012, Intel has invested $185 million in 2,000 energy-saving projects, and 100% of the electricity the corporation consumes in the U.S. and EU comes from renewables.

Apple is also aiming to become carbon neutral. It has purchased several solar farms, providing sustainable energy for its data centers. As of 2018, all of Apple’s retail stores, offices and data centers are powered by 100 percent renewable energy.

Microsoft uses more than 1.3 billion kWh of green energy annually in software development, data center operations, and manufacturing. The company has pledged to reduce its carbon emissions by 75% by 2030.
